A manicure refers to the art of treating the nails. It is a form of cosmetic beauty treatment. The basic elements of manicuring are filing, trimming and polishing the nails. There are different kinds of manicure designs. Artificial nails, acrylics, UV gel and French manicure are among the most common types of manicure designs. The list can be endless, because a new manicure design can always be conceptualized through experimentation.

Artificial nails are a kind of manicure design that extends the natural nails. Artificial nails are not used to replace the natural nails; artificial nails are attached to the natural nails to extend them.

This is most appropriate for people who want to incorporate a lot of manicure designs on the nails, but are not able to do so because of short nails. Artificial nails, when attached, can be treated like real nails. Artificial nails can be filed and nail polish can be applied to the artificial nails.

Acrylics refers to a type of manicure design that is produced by mixing two substances, a liquid monomer and a polymer powder. Thirty to forty minutes after mixing these two substances together, the mixture becomes hard. This is a popular material that is used to enhance the appearance of the nails.

Another manicure design is the use of UV gel. This type of gel, when applied to the nails, becomes hard when it gets exposed to ultraviolet light. This is technically called a polymer resin. This will make the nails stronger and more flexible. Because of its ability to enhance the nails, UV gel is sold in stores at a high price.

French manicure is so far the most popular manicure design. This is done by applying white nail polish only at the tips of each fingernail. This is appropriate for people who have trimmed or short nails. The overall coating of the nail should be pink or beige, as long as it resembles the natural color of the nails. The tip of each nail has to be white.
